SUBMISSIONS OF HAIKU ABOUT MELBOURNE

The Rooku Troupe, in conjunction with The Committee for Melbourne are proud to announce that Moving Galleries, Stage Two & Stage Three is underway. Please submit haiku about Melbourne by JULY 31st. Please note that this is only open to residents of VICTORIA.

Moving Galleries is a travelling exhibition of art and poetry which enables Victorian HAIKU POETS and artists to showcase their talent, enhances the travel experience for Melbourne’s train commuters, and builds on Melbourne’s reputation as a cultural and creative capital.

Rooku submissions are now open:

Moving Galleries is now seeking rooku (Australian haiku) for its next two travelling exhibitions, from poets residing in Victoria. The theme for the October 2007 and May 2008 exhibitions is ‘Icons of Melbourne’. Haiku poets are encouraged to respond to this theme as creatively as possible and submit their rooku by July 31st 2007. All poets selected will have their work published and displayed on decals inside 40 Connex trains travelling around Melbourne.

Can’t think of an icon of Melbourne? Here’s a few to get you started: The MCG, Collingwood children’s farm, stencil art, South Melbourne Market, the Royal Botanic Gardens, four seasons in one day, Chinatown, diverse architecture, Windy Hill, all things football, ACCA, the State Library Reading Room, Rocco’s Shoe Store, the Melbourne Cup, Preston markets, Hosier Lane, the Mediterranean Deli in Sydney Road, Flinders Street Station, Federation Square, the GPO…to list just a few.

To submit your rooku poem, first register on this website, then submit your rooku:
