Brief History of the Conferences

The idea of a series of conferences to gather haiku writers from all countries around or near to the Pacific Rim first occurred to Jerry Ball (US) and Sosuke Kanda ( Japan). The first Haiku Pacific Rim Conference took place at Long Beach California.

The second,  in Ogaki, Japan, was convened by Yoshimura Ikuyo; the third in Matsuyama, Japan by Noma Minako and the fourth on the scenic Central Coast of New South Wales Australia was convened by Beverley George.

They have all been memorable, friendly and inspiring events.

An emailed report for delegates will follow.  Also please visit the haiku pages of the New Zealand Poetry Society web-site  for a photographically illustrated summary of the 4th HPR by poet and editor, Sandra Simpson.

It is envisaged that New Zealand will be one of the countries to host forthcoming Haiku Pacific Rim conferences.
